This amendment was ratified on July 9, 1968. This amendment granted citizenship and equal and civil rights to African Americans and slaves who have been emancipated after the American Civil War. The 14th amendment states that no state would be allowed to abridge the “privileges and immunities" of a citizen. No person was allowed to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without "due process of law." Due process clause means that it gives the state as well as the Federal the right to subject to the Bill of Rights. Also the 14th amendment stated that no person could be denied "equal protection of the laws." Before the 14th amendment was enacted there was a right that protected citizens of their rights dealing with only the Federal government. This all changed when the 14th amendment that provided equal protection of laws to citizens was enacted preventing Federal and state governments to abridge citizens of their rights.
The 14th amendment connects to our case Craig v. Boren in many ways. Our case had a gender based discrimination which is against the 14th amendment, American born citizen. Many cases around this time in Oklahoma were all gender based discriminations. The 14th amendment really did change the views of many and created an equal level for both males and females.
